Ping Blueprint S Irons Review: IN THE BAG?

Ping has consistently delivered some of the finest golf irons in the market, excelling particularly in game improvement irons. Recently, their focus has shifted towards irons crafted for the elite player, with the Blueprint series epitomising this elite category. I recently had the pleasure of testing the Blueprint S irons, which have been making waves on the professional tour, notably used by Louis Oosthuizen and of course not to forget one of our favourite Youtube Golfers on the UK scene, Mr Peter Finch who introduced them to his bag earlier this year following a fantastic piece of content showing his fitting process at Ping HQ.

The Blueprint S boasts a compact, minimal offset, player's cavity design tailored for low handicap players. The aesthetics are impressive, with a sleek top line and compact blade length that appeals to those accustomed to playing with blades. The irons frame the ball perfectly, though the offset slightly increases in the longer irons.

Ping introduces "precision pocket forging" in the Blueprint S. This innovative forging process involves creating a pocket in the cavity of the 3, 4, and 5 irons, redistributing 10 grams of weight to enhance MOI and adjust the centre of gravity for improved distance and trajectory control. These irons also feature an elastomer insert in the forged cavity to improve the feel and sound of the longer irons.

Performance-wise, the Blueprint S irons are impeccable. Strikes feel solid and firm, and even less-than-perfect hits provide valuable feedback without significant performance compromise. These irons are not designed primarily for distance but offer an excellent combination of consistency, workability, and turf interaction. I could easily adjust the trajectory and manoeuvre the ball with fades and draws as effectively as with the Blueprint T irons.

Everyone will have their own opinion on the aesthetics, but to me they are a thing of beauty! I was so impressed with the Blueprint S Irons during my tests that I decided to upgrade from my Titleist T100 irons. I've opted for a custom set in Black Dot (Standard Lie Angle) from 4-PW, equipped with Dynamic Gold 115 Mid X100 Extra Stiff Flex Shafts and finished with Golf Pride Tour Velvet Plus4 Grips. Safe to say that these irons met and exceeded all of my expectations and I would highly recommend trying if you're a low to mid handicap looking for a new set.
