The Mizuno T22 Raw 48° Gap Wedge combines the unmistakable feel of Mizuno's Grain Flow Forging process with precise spin technology and a distinctive untreated Raw finish. Designed to transition naturally from a player's iron set into specialist scoring wedges, the 48° configuration is particularly effective for controlled full swings, three-quarter approaches and precise shots into the green.
Forged in Hiroshima, Japan from 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel with Boron, the T22 delivers the soft, responsive impact sensation associated with Mizuno's forged clubs while providing additional durability. Quad Cut Milled grooves, HydroFlow Micro Grooves and a Spin-Weighted Blade work together to generate consistent spin and a controlled trajectory, while the Raw finish is designed to develop a unique rust patina naturally through use.
Versatile 48° Gap Wedge
At 48° of loft, the T22 occupies an important position between a modern pitching wedge and higher-lofted specialist wedges.
It provides a natural option for golfers whose iron-set pitching wedge leaves too large a distance gap to a traditional 52° or 54° wedge.
The relatively low loft also makes the 48° particularly effective on fuller swings, allowing golfers to produce controlled approach distances while retaining the additional spin and precision of a specialist wedge.
Grain Flow Forged in Hiroshima
The T22 is manufactured using Mizuno's renowned Grain Flow Forging process in Hiroshima, Japan.
Rather than using a cast construction, the wedge is forged as a single piece to preserve a continuous grain structure through the impact area.
This contributes to the exceptionally soft, dense and responsive sensation for which Mizuno's forged irons and wedges have become renowned.
Boron-Infused Carbon Steel
Mizuno incorporates Boron into its mild carbon steel construction to improve durability while retaining the responsive characteristics expected from a forged wedge.
The stronger material is particularly beneficial around the face and grooves, where repeated contact with the golf ball and turf naturally produces wear.
This allows the T22 to combine traditional forged feel with the durability required from a frequently used scoring club.
Natural Raw Finish
This T22 features Mizuno's distinctive Raw finish, leaving the clubhead untreated rather than applying a conventional plated surface.
As the wedge is exposed to air, moisture and normal playing conditions, the head is designed to oxidise and develop a natural rust patina.
This changing appearance is an intentional characteristic of the Raw model, giving each wedge an increasingly individual look as it ages.
The untreated surface also reduces unwanted glare when playing in bright conditions.
Quad Cut Milled Grooves
The T22 incorporates Mizuno's precision-engineered Quad Cut Milled grooves to provide dependable spin and control.
Rather than using identical groove geometry throughout the entire range, the groove configuration is optimised according to loft and intended shot type.
For the 48° model, the face is designed around the higher-speed impact conditions typically generated by fuller approach shots, helping produce consistent spin and predictable carry distances.
HydroFlow Micro Grooves
Between the primary grooves, Mizuno laser etches its HydroFlow Micro Grooves into the face.
These fine vertical channels are designed to help release moisture from between the golf ball and clubface at impact.
Reducing the influence of water can help preserve friction and spin when playing from damp grass or in wet conditions, providing greater consistency when conditions are less than ideal.
Spin-Weighted Blade
The T22 features Mizuno's Spin-Weighted Blade design, using additional mass higher within the clubhead to influence centre-of-gravity positioning.
This configuration is engineered to produce a more controlled, penetrating trajectory while maintaining strong spin characteristics.
For a 48° gap wedge frequently used for full and three-quarter swings, controlling launch is particularly valuable for producing predictable distances and maintaining performance in windy conditions.
S Grind Sole
The 48° T22 is paired with Mizuno's S Grind, a relatively straightforward sole configuration designed to complement the types of shots typically played with lower-lofted wedges.
Rather than incorporating extreme heel or toe relief for heavily manipulated greenside shots, the S Grind provides predictable turf interaction when the clubface is played predominantly square.
This makes it particularly well suited to full approaches and controlled partial swings.
Seamless Transition from an Iron Set
The 48° T22 is designed to provide a natural transition between conventional irons and specialist wedges.
Its compact shaping, controlled trajectory and full-shot-friendly sole allow it to perform similarly to a precision scoring iron while adding the enhanced groove technology and versatility expected from a dedicated wedge.
For golfers using increasingly strong pitching-wedge lofts, it can provide an especially useful solution for maintaining consistent distance gaps through the scoring end of the bag.
Precise Approach-Shot Control
Although the T22 offers useful versatility around the green, the 48° configuration excels primarily as a precision approach club.
Its forged construction provides clear feedback, while the Spin-Weighted Blade and loft-specific groove design help produce predictable launch and spin.
This combination allows golfers to confidently control both carry distance and trajectory on full swings, three-quarter shots and lower flighted approaches.
