Premium Forged Construction
The 716 AP2 features a forged 1025 carbon steel body, producing the soft, responsive impact sensation expected from a premium players iron.
Titleist's precise forging process provides excellent feedback through impact, allowing accomplished golfers to immediately recognise strike quality while maintaining the solid feel that made the AP2 family so highly regarded.
High-Density Tungsten Weighting
One of the most significant advancements in the 716 AP2 is the increased use of high-density tungsten weighting.
Titleist strategically positioned tungsten towards the heel and toe of the clubhead, increasing perimeter weighting without making the iron significantly larger.
The 716 generation incorporates approximately 25% more tungsten than the previous 714 AP2, increasing stability and helping maintain ball speed and directional control when impact occurs away from the centre.
Increased MOI & Forgiveness
The additional tungsten significantly increases the Moment of Inertia (MOI) of the clubhead.
Compared with the previous generation, Titleist increased MOI by approximately 8.5% in the long irons and around 5.5% across the complete set.
This allows the 716 AP2 to provide impressive forgiveness while retaining the compact dimensions and workability expected from a traditional players iron.
Optimised Centre of Gravity
The centre of gravity has been carefully positioned throughout the set to optimise launch, trajectory and distance control.
Longer irons benefit from easier launch and improved stability, while the scoring irons retain the precision and trajectory control required for attacking pins.
Rather than focusing purely on maximum distance, the AP2 is engineered to produce predictable carry distances and tight dispersion, helping golfers maintain consistency even when contact isn't perfect.
Improved Turf Interaction
Titleist refined the sole geometry of the 716 AP2 to provide smoother interaction with the ground.
A slightly wider sole combined with trailing-edge relief allows the clubhead to move efficiently through the turf without excessive digging. This provides cleaner contact from a variety of lies while maintaining the precise turf interaction preferred by accomplished ball strikers.
